State Income

The Commissionerate of Economics and Statistics, Maharashtra has been compiling the estimates of State Income as per the standard methodology recommended by National Statistics Office (NSO). New Delhi, since last six decades. The first estimate of State Income for the first while Bombay province for the year 1948-49 was published by this Commissionerate in January 1950. The series of State Income estimates was first published for the years 1960-61 to 1967-68 at current prices and at constant (1960-61) prices, in ‘Maharashtra - an Economic Review 1968-69’. There on, the estimates of State Income are being prepared on a regular basis. Commissionerate of Economics and Statistics has incorporated conceptual and methodological improvements as well as latest available data along with the revision in the base year. The estimates of GSDP and NSDP for all the sectors of the economy and Per capita income are compiled by this Commissionerate regularly every year and published in the “Economic Survey of Maharashtra” which is tabled in the Budget session of the State Assembly.




Fiscal Variable

The State Government Budget is the Annual Financial Statement, which is presented to the State Legislature under the Article 202 (1) of the Constitution of India. It contains a detailed account of estimates of receipts & expenditure of the government for upcoming financial year, revised estimates for the current year and actuals for the preceding year. The Budget of Maharashtra is kept in three parts viz. 1) Consolidated Fund 2) Contingency Fund and 3) the Public Account. The Consolidated Fund is further divided into three components viz. 1) Revenue 2) Capital and 3) Debt (comprising of Public Debt, Loans and Advances and Inter- State Settlement). On the lines of Central Government and the Reserve Bank of India, 34 major fiscal variables have been identified and computed based on the data from State Budget documents for respective years. This helps to analyse the trend of fiscal indicators for the State over the years.
